Here are some small changes you can make to be healthier this year

From Leigha Messner, Lee Health's Nutrition Manager

Even if you don’t make a New Year’s resolution, it’s hard not to think about developing healthier habits. Sometimes, we think we need to make a big, dramatic effort, but it’s the small steps that count toward achieving a lasting impact.

Here are some small changes you can make to live a healthier lifestyle:

  • Take a walk after dinner. This will help digest your food, increase blood flow, improve mental health and help you get in some regular physical activity.
  • Make small, healthier changes to your diet over time. For example, you can cut out processed foods one week and include more vegetables the next. Try something each week that will get you one step closer to achieving a long-term healthy diet.
  • Incorporate a different fruit or vegetable into your diet each week
  • Drink more water. One way to do this is to start the day with a glass of water and to drink it during your meals. You’ll feel more focused, less tired, less hungry and it’ll help your body work better overall.
