What is in-person care? When should I use it?

In-person care refers to traditional appointments where you physically visit a provider's office, clinic, or hospital for an examination, consultation, or treatment. In-person care is best for situations requiring one-on-one interactions like physical examinations, vaccinations, lab tests, or immediate medical attention. What is virtual care or telemedicine? When should I use it?

Virtual care or telemedicine allows you to consult with a healthcare provider remotely, using video calls, phone calls, or secure messaging. Virtual care is ideal for non-urgent issues, routine check-ups, medication management, and consultations where physical presence is not necessary. Lee Health offers multiple ways of connecting with your provider virtually for convenience and accessibility.

Lee Telehealth e-Visits is an asynchronous messaging telemedicine service that doesn't require appointments or real-time communication. Patients answer questions about their symptoms at their own pace and receive a treatment plan within hours. Lee Telehealth Video Visits is a traditional telemedicine service that provides live video consultations, either as a scheduled appointment with your primary care provider or on-demand with a healthcare provider. What is urgent care? When should I use it?

Lee Health Convenient Care is a good choice for medical issues that need prompt attention but are not emergencies. Lee Health Convenient Cares offer treatment for common illnesses, including allergies, cold and flu, ear infections, labs, TB tests, IVs, EKGs, respiratory Illness, skin ailments, strep throat, and urinary tract infections. What is emergency care? When should I use it?

Emergency care is for life-threatening or severe medical situations like heart attacks, strokes, severe injuries, and acute illnesses. It is crucial to utilize emergency care when faced with critical conditions that require immediate medical attention to prevent further harm or save a life. Emergency care is available 24/7 at all Lee Health Hospitals and our teams are trained to handle critical cases. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately in these cases.

How should I determine which option to use?

The right choice depends on how serious and urgent your medical concern is. If you're unsure, a good first step is to use our care navigation tool by describing your symptoms. Often, virtual healthcare or reaching out to your primary care provider for advice is the best option in many cases.

Is my insurance accepted for these different care options?
