Hours Extended to Provide Weekend Access to Health Care

When you’re not feeling well, your priority is feeling better. That can mean a trip to the doctor. For residents and visitors on Sanibel and Captiva islands, primary care and walk-in services are now even more accessible.

In late June, the Lee Health Sanibel Primary/Walk-In Care office opened and immediately began serving the island communities with much needed services. Due to the response from our community, we are pleased to offer extended office hours to include Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

These extended hours are in addition to weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday.  

“As physicians, we well know that illness doesn’t happen just on weekdays,” said Dr. Robert Bussing, an internal medicine physician in the Sanibel office. “Adding availability on Saturday for patients in need of primary or walk-in care further expands access to health care services on Sanibel residents as well as those visiting the islands.”

Other Lee Physician Group offices offer extended weekday and weekend hours as well. Check with the office staff on what is available at your physician’s office.

Dr. Bussing, is board certified in internal medicine, with more than 40 years of medical experience. He is joined in the Sanibel practice by Dr. John Schmidt, a family practice physician who has been with Lee Health since 2018 at the College Pointe primary care location in Fort Myers, and also served at the Lee Convenient Care locations practicing urgent care medicine during the pandemic.

“Sanibel/Captiva is a special place with unique needs.  We believe that offering expanded hours will help us provide better access for our Island residents as well as our visitors for those problems that just can’t wait,” said Dr. Schmidt

Lee Health Sanibel Primary/Walk-In Care is located at 2495 Palm Ridge Road in Sanibel.
