Lee Health Announces Board of Directors Officers for 2024

(Fort Myers, Fla. – Mar. 29, 2024) --- Lee Health is pleased to announce the newly elected officers of its Board of Directors for 2024. 

Officers Donna Clarke (chair), David F. Collins (treasurer) and Dane Allen (secretary) will all retain their positions, with David Klein becoming the new vice-chair.

Clarke has been re-elected as board chair for 2024. Elected in 2014, Clarke has served for nine years. She is a former Florida State Representative and has served as an adjunct professor with the State College of Florida. Clarke earned a master’s degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has previously owned and operated an environmental consulting firm. She is the past president of the Fort Myers Kiwanis Club and has served as vice-chair of the STARS Advisory Board. Clarke has also volunteered as a math tutor at the Pace Center for Girls of Lee County. 

Klein was elected as the new vice-chair. He was elected to the board in 2022 and is a nationally recognized healthcare executive. Klein’s career includes 41 years of service with BlueCross BlueShield with 10 years as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. He is also a director of United Way and an advisor to Florida Gulf Coast Marieb College of Health and Human Services.

Allen has been re-elected as secretary. Elected in 2022, he serves as a member of the Board’s Governance Committee and Audit Committee. Allen is the Assistant General Counsel for The Hertz Corporation, where he focuses on corporate governance and related matters. He is a nationally recognized corporate governance expert, having served on the Board of Directors of the national Society for Corporate Governance from 2019 to 2023, where he also served as Chair of the Education Programs Committee. In addition to his corporate governance experience, Allen has more than 30 years of experience as a business lawyer and was a Certified Public Accountant before attending law school. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Wisconsin along with his Bachelor of Business Administration with majors in both Accounting and Finance. In his free time, Allen serves on the Executive Committee of the Lee County 50+ Men’s Tennis League.

Collins will retain his position as treasurer. Elected in 2012, Collins has served for 11 years. A resident of Lee County since 1984, he has been a mortgage banker for more than 29 years and has served as a board member for PACE Center for Girls of Lee County, and as treasurer for the PACE Capital Campaign. Collins also served on the 2018 Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Committee and the De LaSalle Academy Finance Committee. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Lee County Class of 2012.

The Board of Directors’ primary goal is to set the mission and vision of Lee Health. The Board of Directors consists of 10 officials from five districts who are elected by the residents of Lee County. The Board holds regularly scheduled public meetings to set goals and objectives and to hear recommendations from the health system’s administrative and medical staff.
