Program Empowers, Supports Physician Leadership
Welcome Inaugural Cohort of the Lee Health Physician Leadership Development Program
September, 2019 | Larry Antonucci, M.D., MBA President & CEO, Lee Health
Between advances in technology, new and yet unknown competition, uncertainty in payment models and policy, and other challenges, health care is always evolving. As we navigate this dynamic landscape, we need strong leadership, especially strong physician leaders, to influence and lead change, to shape organizational culture, and to achieve operational and strategic goals. Evidence shows that physician leadership is vital to the future of health care. Now more than ever, physicians are rapidly engaging to become leaders in their practices, organizations and communities. Physicians are often natural leaders, and we recognize the potential you have to help us transform health care delivery and lead us into the future.
To encourage, empower and support our physician partners’ leadership growth and development, we launched the Lee Health Physician Leadership Development Program. Developed in partnership with the American Association for Physician Leadership® (AAPL), this 18-month program provides specific training in leadership, management and communication. The inaugural cohort begins their training in September. The class includes 43 physicians (click here to see the list of participants chosen for this first class).
Completion of the program provides 104.5 CMEs, eligibility for Certified Physician Executive® (CPE) designation (with additional requirements) and credit toward a Master’s degree (credits can be applied to a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Massachusetts and others). Those completing the program will be invited to share expertise and best practices learned through this special development program by participating in Lee Health-designated committees, workgroups, physician meetings or interdisciplinary projects.
We believe this program will help us develop local leaders who understand the challenges and opportunities we face while providing health care throughout Southwest Florida. We are excited for our 43 physicians in the first class, and for our community as a whole to gain the impact and support of skilled, empowered, focused physician leaders striving to continuously improve health care delivery in Southwest Florida. If you have any questions about the program, contact Teresa Rooney at 239-343-7523.
Thank you to all who applied to participate in our inaugural class, and best of luck to the 43 physicians beginning their leadership journey.
Yours in Health,
Larry Antonucci, M.D., MBA
