High School Senior Encourages Proper COVID-19 Protocols Among Teenagers

Every day we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is important that everyone continues to diligently wear masks to keep our community healthy.

Anna Sofia Diaz is working to ensure that our younger community members know the value of doing their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus through proper mask wearing and social distancing.

“I know that wearing a mask, avoiding large parties and following COVID-19 protocols is really hard when you are a teenager,” Diaz said. “I try to go to the beach and do more outside things with the same group of close friends. I think you can still have fun, you just have to be creative and careful.

"I want to promote the use of masks in young people and remind them that it is not necessarily for them, but for other people they care about.”

As our community continues to operate at normal capacity, it is as important as ever to stay diligent in mask wearing.

Diaz was inspired to start this campaign after seeing so many young people without masks during a quick trip to the grocery store with her grandmother.

She hopes to share the importance of people her age wearing masks to keep others, like her grandmother, healthy and safe, so she began a campaign to spread awareness in her community. 

“At first, it was a little weird to wear a mask and a lot of people didn’t understand why it was important to wear it,” Diaz said. “I think that campaigns like this can remind you that you are doing it for someone else. I am a high school senior, and I truly hope that everyone continues to wear their masks and make good choices, so hopefully we can have a more normal end for the school year.”
