CBT Therapy for Addiction Medicine

Here at Lee Health we offer a wide variety of therapeutic modalities to meet your individual needs. These services are provided by our expert trained treatment provider. In order for addictions treatment to be successful, medications can be paired with good therapy and a strong support system.

What is it?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders and severe mental illness.

How is it helpful?

CBT teaches patients in recovery to find connections between their thoughts feeling and behaviors and increase awareness of how these things impact recovery. By becoming aware of the negative and often unrealistic thoughts that dampen their feelings and moods, people are able to start engaging in healthier thinking patterns.  Additionally, CBT can also be an effective short term treatment option and with certain types of emotional distress, it can help people without requiring psychotropic medications.

How do these therapies affect the brain?

CBT works by basically coaching your brain through a different reaction process, which can be either thoughts or behaviors, and therefore rewiring the brain and changing those neural pathways over time.
