GI Genius™ Colonoscopy
What is GI Genius™ for Colonscopy?
Lee Health is dedicated to offering the highest standard of gastroenterological care and using advancements in medical technology to enhance patient outcomes and comfort. GI Genius™, is a cutting-edge tool designed to improve the detection of colorectal conditions during a colonoscopy. As the first AI-assisted colonoscopy system approved by the FDA, it employs artificial intelligence (AI) to assist gastroenterologists in identifying polyps and other signs of colorectal cancer, which may not be easily visible to the human eye.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer diagnosed in the U.S., with more than 150,000 new cases every year. Early detection is essential to prevent colorectal cancer, GI Genius™ is particularly effective for spotting tiny polyps. This technology represents a significant leap forward in colonoscopy procedures, providing an extra layer of precision and reliability.
How Does GI Genius™ Work?
The GI Genius™ system works with existing colonoscopy equipment and uses advanced visualization to highlight polyps in real-time. The gastroenterologist decides if the polyp should be removed. If the polyp is removed, the doctor sends it to the laboratory for biopsy analysis. According to a 2022 study, this technology significantly decreased the miss rate of adenomas and polyps by 45.8%.
