Who Should Get a Physical?

Anyone who is participating in school sports, community activities, or attending school should receive a physical. Having a physical examination protects your child, classmates, and teammates from avoidable injuries. A family medical history review can be beneficial to students interested in participating in sports for the first time.

What Should You Bring?

Bring any required forms for healthcare providers to complete. If the patient wears glasses or contacts, bring those to the exam as well.

You should also bring your child’s immunization records and a list of any medications your child takes, including prescription medications and over-the-counter medicines.

Why Are Physicals Important?

Sports physicals are largely required by athletic leagues and schools. Fall sports including bowling, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, marching band, swimming, and volleyball typically need one before participation. Physicals raise awareness of any issues that may interfere with your child’s ability to participate in a sport and their overall health.

Your healthcare provider can identify areas that may be prone to injury and suggest tips and exercises avoid future problems as well as a future treatment.

Are Sports Physicals Necessary?

Lee Health providers are qualified to perform sports preparticipation physical exams (PPE) and physicals for kids and teens. Our medical professionals can examine your child, go over their medical history, and, if more testing or screening is indicated, recommend it. Your healthcare professional will complete the student athlete's necessary medical forms after the session.
