Breast Cancer Survivor Stories

Posted:

Javanda.jpgJavanda Sanders has been working at Lee Health for nearly 38 years, and she is a Breast Cancer Survivor! Beyond her battle against breast cancer, Javanda has inspired her coworkers, friends and family with her compassion and dedication towards everyone in her life.

On March 22, 2015, Javanda’s worst fear was confirmed after she found a lump in her right breast. She was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer, and this news was just the beginning of her tremendous battle.

“I cried, and I began to pray because there’s nothing too hard for my God,” Javanda said. “Dr. Linda Yarris Ewert called me and told me that they found cancer, she said to me, ‘I am so sorry for you.’ I said, ‘I will be alright, God’s got this.’”

Javanda’s unwavering faith and bravery during her battle with breast cancer inspired everyone in her life, from her friends and family to her coworkers. Rafaela Keep was so inspired by Javanda’s journey and attitude that she nominated and encouraged her to share her touching story for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Javanda’s determination, motivation and hard work make our days much easier,” Rafaela said. “My admiration and respect for her grow each day. Bravery and courage are two of her greatest assets, and her strength is amazing. For the exceptional coworker that you are, thank you for your hard work, extra effort and constant concern and care for us. Having you on our team makes a huge difference. May God Bless you and protect you always!”

As Javanda was battling for her life, she received incredible support from the people around her, even in her hardest moments. At one point during her fight, she was hospitalized for a month after contracting a bad infection.

“This was a test of my faith to bring me closer to the Lord and he’s trying to get my attention,” Javanda said.

As she was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, she had frequent visits from her friends, family and coworkers. When she was unable to work because of treatment and surgery, Javanda’s co-workers still provided her with support by donating their own PTO hours to allow her to focus on her healing.

“Enjoy life to the fullest and don’t take your health for granted,” Javanda said. “I love telling my story about how the Lord healed me.”

We are so proud to share the stories of our own Lee Health survivors during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each survivor’s unique story and incredible strength are an inspiration to us all!
