Golisano Children's Hospital Magnet Journey
Welcome from the Chief Nurse at Golisano Children's Hospital
Golisano team members are committed to each child’s individual needs and embrace healing while providing top-notch care for the children in our community. As the only children’s hospital between Tampa and Miami, we are passionate about keeping our children close to home, relieving the added stress of travel for parents.
The hospital has added multiple new services and programs over the last six years and will continue to add needed services to meet the needs of the community.
Golisano Children's Hospital
As the only children’s hospital between Tampa and Miami, Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida delivers vital and lifesaving care for children and their families. Our highly trained team members are motivated by the belief that every child is special and deserves the best care possible.
Once housed inside HealthPark Medical Center, the children’s hospital became a standalone 300,000-square-foot, 7-story facility in 2017 thanks to a groundbreaking $20 million gift from philanthropist Tom Golisano. The 135 bed hospital provides a variety of specialized services – from emergency care to behavioral health, surgery to critical care, orthopedics, cancer treatment, cardiology, pediatric neurosurgery, and more.
The hospital is a member of Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals across the nation. Local donations to the Children’s Miracle Network stay in Southwest Florida to support Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Golisano Children's Hospital Magnet Journey
Golisano Children’s Hospital is currently on the Journey to Magnet® Excellence for our first designation. The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the excellent nursing care and uphold the tradition of professional nursing practice. The Magnet Recognition Program is based on quality indicators and standards of nursing. The Magnet designation process includes the appraisal of both qualitative and quantitative factors in nursing.
Research shows, hospitals that have obtained the Magnet distinction have better patient outcomes and satisfaction, as well as increased nurse satisfaction and retention. Golisano nurses are committed to using evidence-based practice to provide safe and high-quality care to our patients. Our journey to excellence takes a commitment from our whole team to create and maintain a culture of excellence. By becoming a Magnet hospital, it shows our commitment to our community, and that we will continue to provide safe high-quality care to our patients through evidenced-based practice.
The five key components of the Magnet model include:
- Transformational Leadership
- Structural Empowerment
- Exemplary Professional Practice
- New Knowledge
- Innovations & Improvement
- Empirical Outcomes
