Biography
Douglas F. Savage, MD received his Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, from which he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, also in Norfolk, and did his surgical internship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland AFB in Texas.
Following his internship, Dr. Savage joined the University of Florida’s Department of Neurosurgery as a Research Fellow. He also performed his neurological surgery residency there.
He resumed his military career again at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center as Assistant Chairman of the center’s Department of Neurosurgery. In 1992, Dr. Savage joined Southwest Florida Neurosurgical Associates.
Dr. Savage is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of the Lee County Medical Society, the Florida Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Florida Neurosurgical Society and the North American Spine Society.
During his career, Dr. Savage has made numerous presentations and contributed to publications concerning various aspects of neurological surgery.
