Robotic Salpingo-Oophorectomy Surgery

Lee Health offers compassionate and individualized care to help patients treat and manage their women's health needs. If you or your provider are looking to address conditions related to gynecological conditions or ovarian cancer, robotic assisted salpingo-oophorectomy surgery may be an option for you.

This surgery might be recommended if:

  • You have gynecological conditions such as ovarian cysts or endometriosis.
  • You have been diagnosed with ovarian or fallopian tube cancer, this surgery can help remove cancerous tissue and reduce the risk of the cancer spreading to other parts of your body.
  • You have a family history of ovarian or breast cancer, you may be at an increased risk of developing these cancers yourself. Women who carry certain genetic mutations, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, prophylactic salpingo-oophorectomy may be recommended to reduce the risk developing breast or ovarian cancer.

Speak with your surgeon at Lee Health if you feel this might be a treatment option for you.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Options for Robotic Assisted Salpingo-Oophorectomy Surgery

Lee Health uses robotic surgery as an innovative way to offer patients minimally invasive gynecological surgery with faster recovery times and less scarring.

Traditional open gynecologic surgery—using a large incision to access the uterus and surrounding anatomy—has been the standard approach to many gynecologic procedures. Lee Health has two robots that can perform gynecological robotic-assisted surgery, the da Vinci™ Surgical System.

To treat or reduce the risks related to your unique uterine condition, your Lee Health provider may recommend surgery. If so, ask your doctor about the da Vinci™ Surgical System being used for your salpingo-oophorectomy surgery.

The da Vinci™ Surgical System

Da Vinci Xi Surgical System

For gynecology surgeons, the da Vinci Xi offers more options than the previous da Vinci system thanks to multi-quadrant access and versatility for a variety of gynecologic procedures. This enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex procedures with a few small incisions and with reduced recovery time for our patients.

Benefits of Robotic Assisted Salpingo-Oophorectomy Surgery

Through continued innovation and advancements in general surgery, our Lee Health surgeons use the da Vinci™ Surgical System, to operate through just a few small incisions with exceptional precision. The innovations of these surgical systems afford surgeons improved visibility and communication with the OR team. These improvements are responsible for significant improvements in surgical accuracy and patient safety. Additionally the robotic instruments that are used are significantly improved over laparoscopic instruments.

As a result, your surgeon is able to perform your surgery with enhanced vision, precision, and control. Robotic assisted transvaginal hysterectomy surgery enables you to recover faster and with less pain than traditional open surgery.

Benefits of the da Vinci™ Surgical System

  • Shorter Recovery Time
  • Significantly Less Pain
  • Less Blood Loss
  • Less Scarring
  • Faster Return to Normal Daily Activities
  • In Many Cases Better Clinical Outcomes

It is important to discuss the benefits and risks of robotic assisted salpingo-oophorectomy surgery with your surgeon to determine if this is the best option for you.
