Child Advocates in the ED

Who we are, what we do

Getting admitted to the Emergency Department and navigating through check-in, treatment, check-out, and follow-ups can be confusing. Many families have questions and ask for guidance.

That is why Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida provides child advocates for parents and caregivers.

Child advocates promote access to medical services and can speak to caregivers about education, safety, and security. These advocates are part of Lee Health's Child Advocacy Program, which provides support to 95,000 people in Lee and Collier counties.

If a child is admitted to the hospital – either in the Emergency Department or a pediatric unit – for an unintentional injury that could have been prevented, our nursing staff, physicians and/or case managers can request an injury prevention consultation from an advocate.

Our child advocates – who also attend events and health fairs throughout the community have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, public health, education and/or other related fields.
