Comparing to Insurance
Comparing your patient bill with your insurance
If you have private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, you should receive a statement from your insurer showing payments they made for your treatment. This may be called an explanation of benefits (EOB) or Medicare Summary Notice (MSN).
You can compare these statements to our bills to see where we have applied your insurer's payments to your account and deducted them from your balance. This is called "reconciling" your patient bill, and we've developed the following tips to help you do this.
Tips to reconcile your patient bill with your insurance
- Arrange each provider's bill by date with the most recent at the top
- Match up the bill with the corresponding EOB (explanation of benefits from your insurer)
- Make a seperate file folder for each provider (doctor, hospital, lab, ambulance, etc.)
- Make payment directly to the provider sending you the statement
If you have not yet received a statement from your insurer, call your insurer to request one. If you have Medicare, you should receive a statement once each quarter.
