Biography

Dr. De Armas'interest in oncology grew during his internal medicine residency when he had the opportunity to work in the oncology rotation. Two things caught his interest. The first was the strong personal connection that oncologists develop with their patients. When informing a patient about their cancer diagnosis, he is witness to their fear and uncertainty. As their oncologist, he feels the immense responsibility of helping them face this challenge. While a cure is not always possible, it is possible to extend lives, improve quality of life, offer acceptance, ease pain, show compassion, and let them know they are not alone. The other thing that fascinated him was the rapid advancement of new therapies. Not long ago, effective treatments for melanoma and metastatic lung cancer were rare. But the progress we have made and continue to make is exciting. Every year, he eagerly await news of new groundbreaking treatments, such as targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and advances in molecular testing that allow tailored treatments for specific cancers.
