Robotic Spine Fusion Surgery in Fort Myers, FL

Robotic spine fusion surgery or robotic assisted spine fusion surgery is the latest state-of-the-art technology used for surgery in Southwest Florida. Lee Health has expert trained robotic surgeons to use the ExcelsiusGPS® robot.

The Map to Recovery

The spine is one of the most important structures in the human body, it supports much of the body’s weight and protects the spinal cord, which carries information from the brain to the rest of the body. Individual vertebrae are separated by intervertebral discs, which act as cushions or shock absorbers between the vertebral bodies.

The ExcelsiusGPS® allows surgeons to get underneath the muscle in the back and between the vertebral in your spine to repair and retreat a variety of conditions.

The ExcelsiusGPS® can be used for procedures such as

  • Neck Surgery
  • Lower Back Surgery
  • Scoliosis Correction
  • Fracture Repairs

Minimally Invasive Surgical Approaches

A minimally invasive technique permits your Lee Health surgeon to separate the muscles surrounding the spine rather than cut through them. Your surgeon will operate through small incisions along the spine using the ExcelsiusGPS® robot.

Robotic-assisted screw and rod placement techniques are used to stabilize and hold the spine in place while the fusion of vertebrae occurs. Advances in medical imaging have improved the accuracy of this technique by using images to determine the size and placement of implants based on each patient's anatomy. The images are used to guide the robotic arm to a specific region of your spine, similar to a planned route or pathway on a GPS.

What are the benefits of minimally invasive spine fusion surgery?

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less tissue damage
  • Smaller incisions, which may lead to smaller scars and less pain
