Robotic Assisted Pelvic Floor Reconstruction (Sacrocolpopexy)

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when one or more organs in the pelvis descend from their natural position and protrude into the vaginal area.

Suppose you are experiencing a pelvic organ prolapse. In that case, you may notice symptoms such as a heavy feeling in your lower abdomen and genital area, discomfort within your vagina, the appearance or sensation of a bulge protruding from your vagina, pain during sexual activity, and bladder issues, such as the feeling that your bladder is not empty or leaking urine during exercise, sneezing, or coughing.

For many individuals, pelvic organ prolapse has mild symptoms that typically do not affect your daily routine. If you experience pain or discomfort that negatively impacts your quality of life, or have ongoing problems with your bladder or bowels, it may be time to contact your provider. Non-surgical treatment options can address pelvic organ prolapse. Speak with your surgeon at Lee Health to find out if robotic-assisted pelvic floor reconstruction is a solution for you.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Options for Robotic Assisted Pelvic Floor Reconstruction (Sacrocolpopexy)

Lee Health uses robotic surgery as an innovative way to offer patients minimally invasive gynecological surgery with faster recovery times and less scarring.

Traditional open gynecologic surgery—using a large incision to access the uterus and surrounding anatomy—has been the standard approach to many gynecologic procedures. Lee Health has two robots that can perform gynecological robotic-assisted surgery, the da Vinci™ Surgical System.

To treat or reduce the risks related to your unique pelvic floor and pelvic organ condition, your Lee Health provider may recommend surgery. If so, ask your doctor about the da Vinci™ Surgical System being used for your pelvic floor reconstruction.

The da Vinci™ Surgical System

Da Vinci Xi Surgical System

For gynecology surgeons, the da Vinci Xi offers more options than the previous da Vinci system thanks to multi-quadrant access and versatility for a variety of gynecologic procedures. This enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex procedures with a few small incisions and with reduced recovery time for our patients.

Benefits of Robotic Assisted Pelvic Floor Reconstruction Surgery (Sacrocolpopexy)

Through continued innovation and advancements in general surgery, our Lee Health surgeons use the da Vinci™ Surgical System, to operate through just a few small incisions.

The innovations of these surgical systems afford surgeons improved visibility and communication with the OR team. These improvements are responsible for significant improvements in surgical accuracy and patient safety. Additionally the robotic instruments that are used are significantly improved over laparoscopic instruments.

As a result, your surgeon is able to perform your surgery with enhanced vision, precision, and control. Robotic assisted transvaginal hysterectomy surgery enables you to recover faster and with less pain than traditional open surgery.

The da Vinci™ provide a unique and new surgical approach to very invasive traditional alternatives.

Benefits of the da Vinci™ Surgical System

  • Shorter Recovery Time
  • Significantly Less Pain
  • Less Blood Loss
  • Less Scarring
  • Faster Return to Normal Daily Activities
  • In Many Cases Better Clinical Outcomes

It is important to discuss the benefits and risks of robotic assisted pelvic floor reconstruction surgery with your surgeon to determine if this is the best option for you.
