The Family Birth Suites have their own operating rooms for cesarean sections and are large enough to accommodate twin/triplet deliveries.

Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida

Babies who need special care can receive it at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. Neonatologists and advanced neonatal nurses provide expert care for premature or critically ill newborns delivered in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades counties.

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level III facility that has been designated a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center by the Florida Department of Children’s Medical Services, one of only 11 such centers in the state and the only one in our region. Our Maternal-Neonatal Transport Team transports critically ill or premature newborns to the NICU. The Transport Team also transports maternity patients when the need arises.

Only Lee Health offers a certified Level III NICU and maternal-neonatal transport team in Southwest Florida.

Location

Choosing Your Baby’s Doctor

During your pregnancy, you’ll have the opportunity to choose a pediatrician who fits your needs, lifestyle, and location. Select one several months before your due date so you’ll have an opportunity to discuss your baby’s care before their birthday.

Have a Due Date?

Now’s the Time to Pre-register!

Avoid stress by completing a pre-admission form at least one month before your due date. This will help you get quickly admitted and settled into the Family Birth Suites before labor.

Here’s What to Pack

As your due date approaches, pack a suitcase for yourself, baby, and your support person.

For Mom:

  • Nightgown
  • Undergarments (panties for 2-3 days and a nursing bra)

  • Lip balm
  • Deodorant

Install Your Baby’s Car Seat

Please have a car seat properly installed before your baby’s birth. If you have questions or would like to have your car seat checked before delivery, call 239-343-5224 for an appointment.

Labor and Delivery

Labor can begin with regular and painful uterine contractions or you may experience a “gush” of fluids as your water breaks. Call your doctor or nursemidwife for specific instructions on when to come to the hospital. Most women can stay home during early labor. When you arrive, we’ll ask you some questions to determine if you need to be admitted.

Family Time

After your baby’s birth, the nurse will monitor you and your baby closely. With our family centered approach to care and the guidance of our skilled team, you and your loved ones can start caring for your newborn right away. Family members can visit with you and your baby. However, because you and your baby need quiet time alone, children are not allowed to stay overnight and all visitors must leave by 9 p.m., except one adult support person who may spend the night.

Family Birth Suites celebrate thousands of birthdays every year. We look forward to sharing your special birthday with you.
