Pediatric Anesthesiology

Reducing anxiety and ensuring that pediatric patients are comfortable while undergoing treatment.

Understanding Pediatric Anesthesiology

Pediatric anesthesiology is a specialized branch of medicine focused on providing anesthesia and perioperative care to infants, children, and adolescents. At the heart of our approach to pediatric anesthesiology is a focus on your child's comfort and well-being during surgery. Our pediatric anesthesiologists are highly trained specialists specializing in delivering pediatric anesthesia to young patients while considering their unique physiological and developmental needs. This specialized service offers numerous benefits, including managing pain, monitoring vital signs, and adapting anesthesia techniques to your child's specific needs, contributing to a safer surgical experience.

Specialized Pediatric Surgery Support

Our dedicated support staff has years of special training and experience with young patients and work with our pediatric anesthesiologists. They understand the intricacies of children’s bodies, structures and functions, especially those of infants. This is an important distinction and underscores the difference between general anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology.

The type of anesthesia used is decided by the anesthesiologist based upon individual circumstances such as the child’s age, the type and length of surgery, general health and other factors. We strive to put every child and parent at ease in preparation for and during each surgical procedure. Working as a key member of the surgical team, our pediatric anesthesia staff manages the anesthesia process from the start of our young patients’ surgery until it is complete. During this time, the child’s heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and oxygen and anesthesia levels are monitored. Because children have special physical requirements, specially designed equipment and techniques are used.

Child Life Program: Supporting Healing By Reducing Stress

A key part of our comprehensive and compassionate care is our Child Life program, designed to help children understand and cope with medical treatment. Child life specialists will be here for your child every step of the way by communicating through play, connecting on their level, and making them as comfortable as possible.
