Biography

Many people have asked Dr. Duerkes why he became a doctor who specializes in women’s health. Among other things, he cherishes the relationships he develops with his patients and their families. He understands that whether it’s pregnancy or gyn surgery, fear and anxiety may take over. It is these unique, sensitive, and sometimes scary scenarios that he believes create a relationship that doctors in other specialties of medicine may not have. It may be a hard life at times, but these moments keep him going.

Dr. Duerkes was drawn to Lee Health as an extensive not-for-profit health system with patients at the center of care. As healthcare systems change, it is easy for some systems to lose sight of the ultimate goal,
resulting in patients and staff being seen as just numbers. Dr. Duerkes is committed to maintaining or restoring the close physician-patient relationship that is often lost in corporate medical care settings.

Dr. Duerkes believes a modern approach to care balances cutting-edge medical management with an environment that is nurturing, personable, and genuine. He also recognizes that education is a vital component that empowers patients to collaborate with their physicians to help prevent and treat disease.

    I thought everyone was wonderful! The front desk staff were super helpful and welcoming since it was my first visit. Dr. Duerkes was great! He was kind, caring, and informative. I was impressed at how quickly he was able to view/comment on my test results. I w ould like to recognize his medical assistants. They were both super nice and helpful. I had a great new patient experience overall.

    Dr. Duerkes explained about the symptoms and procedures in a very friendly and professional way. I was really nervous about the whole process but he made me feel at ease, assured me that everything is okay. I really appreciate his kindness and professionalism.

    Everyone I came into contact with was outstanding! It is so hard to remember names when in a stressful situation so I cannot single out any specific person. However, everyone made eye contact, smiled and listened. These 3 things go a long way towards making a person feel valued and cared for. As a retired nurse from Lee Health, I can honestly say that this is a Lee Health standard. They teach and uphold great customer service. Thank you!!

    Dr. Duerkes and my nurse Lauren were outstanding. I would need more than 1000 words to describe my experience. They both went above and beyond my expectations. I also work in the medical field, I have experienced many different doctors personalities. I highly recommend Dr. Duerkes. The professionalism, understanding, listening, caring, sharing words of encouragement. I just felt so comfortable and not just a patient. They genuinely care. During this difficult time they (Dr. Duerkes & Lauren) followed up even after my visit multiple times, to make sure I was okay and that I verbalized my orders given. I am beyond blessed to have both.
