Volunteer Opportunities Gulf Coast Medical Center

Below are the job opportunities for our volunteers to choose from. Jobs are classified as patient contact where you will have direct patient contact or non-patient contact where you will be providing support services. Work shifts typically run 8:00-12:00, 12:00-4:00, 4:00-8:00 (some exceptions). Shifts are subject to change based on staffing and scheduling needs. 


Gulf Coast Medical Center

  • Arts in Healthcare (patient) – Round on patients with art cart providing word searches, crossword puzzles, and color sheets 
  • Conversationalist (patient) – Visit with patients and families, assist with comfort (blanket, pillows, books), read or play cards, etc
  • Crafts (non-patient) - Provide homemade items for patients including but not limited to, shawls, blankets, quilts, and chemo caps. Items can be made from home
  • Emergency Department (patient) – Greet patients and visitors and assist them in getting registered at Triage desk, attend to visitors and patients in waiting area. Or work in the patient treatment area, rounding on patients and assisting staff with room turnover and restocking supplies. 
  • Food & Nutrition Service (non-patient) - Assist in cafeteria, cleaning tables, wiping trays, restocking, serving
  • Guest Services Representative (patient) - Visit and welcome patients newly admitted to the hospital; assess that needs are being met; inform the patient/family of various services offered by Lee Health; act as liaison between patients, their family and Lee Health staff and promote a positive customer image 
  • Hearts & Hands Gift Shop (non-patient) – Running cash register, waiting on customers, restocking inventory 
  • Intensive Care Waiting Room (non-patient) – Greet visitors, checking with staff about patient’s condition and visitation, keep family updated and informed about procedures etc. Other duties as assigned 
  • Lobby Information Desks & Escort (non-patient) - Greet and escort patients and visitors, computer work, answer phones, look-up patient information for visitors 
  • Medical Floor Service (patient) – Deliver water, linens, stocking, answer call lights, and other duties as assigned 
  • Pet Therapy (patient) - Registration with Therapy Dogs Inc. or an approved pet therapy organization is required. The dog must be at least 1-year of age and have successfully completed the Therapy Dog program 
  • Pre-Op/PACU (patient) – Stock supplies, escort patients and visitors, chart prep, clean monitors and stretchers. Run errands as needed
  • Registration (patient) – Greet patients and visitors and assist them in getting registered and other assigned duties 
  • Supply Chain – (non-patient) – Deliver equipment and inventory to departments throughout the facility 
  • Surgical Waiting Room Information Desk (patient) - Greet visitors, checking with staff about patient’s condition and visitation, keep family updated and informed about procedures and see to visitor’s comfort in waiting area. Requires walking and some pushing patients in wheel chairs 
  • Transporter (patient) – Assisting staff with transporting patients around the hospital via wheelchair
  • Trolley Driver (non-patient) - Drive golf cart around parking lot to pick up and drop off patients and visitors. Valid, CLEAN FLORIDA Driver’s License required 
  • Uniform Store (non-patient) – Running cash register, waiting on customers, restocking inventory

Offsite Facilities (Apply Through GCMC)

GCMC Skilled Nursing Unit

  • Guest Services/Activities Volunteer (patient/non-patient) – Provide tour of facility, prepare admission/discharge packets, assist patients with activities (card games, arts and crafts, etc) 
  • Outpatient Rehab (patient) – Collect and sanitize equipment and treatment tables, escort patients to and from therapy gym, stock supplies, etc 

Lee Health Coconut Point

  • Breast Health Center (patient) – Greet and escort patients to dressing area, assist with completing paperwork
  • Emergency Department Assistant (patient) – Round on patients to assist with comfort and support, restock supplies, transport patients to discharge, courier as needed, etc
  • Information Desk – Welcome and escort visitors, (possibly by wheelchair) throughout facility
  • Outpatient Lab Services (patient) – Greet patients, answer phones, assist with self-check in kiosk and scheduling appointments
  • Outpatient Rehab (patient) – Wipe down equipment and treatment tables, escort patients, copy education materials and make packets, etc
  • Plant Operations (non-patient) - Assist Plant Operations staff maintain, calibrate and service mechanical, electrical, electronic and/or computer equipment, help organize supplies and inventory. Must have experience
  • Surgical Services (patient) – Greet and escort patients and visitors (possibly by wheelchair), answer phones, assist with discharge
  • Trolley Drivers (patient) – Drive golf cart around parking lot to pick up and drop off patients and visitors. Valid, CLEAN FLORIDA Driver’s License required

Plantation

  • ALS Clinic (non-patient) - Assist with answering phones, greeting visitors, filing, making copies, etc (One Saturday per month)
  • Outpatient Lab (patient) – Greet and check in patients coming in for blood work, answer phones, etc
  • Sleep Laboratory (non-patient) – Assist with filing, making copies, data entry, etc

Westlinks Office

  • Home Health (non-patient) - Put together educational packets, filing, making copies, etc
  • Property Management (non-patient) - Assist department with answering phones, filing, making copies, etc
