Cancer Survivorship
After a cancer diagnosis many patients say it feels like they're entering a new reality. Our first priority at the Lee Health Cancer Institute is assisting you in making a smooth transition from cancer diagnosis to treatment and survivorship.
No matter which stage of survivorship you are in our oncology team will assist you in any questions that arise. Adjusting to new physical and emotional changes, treatment side effects, and family problems is what many cancer survivors say is difficult adapting to. We provide to you a thorough survivorship care plan. A summary of the plan includes:
- Diagnosis summary - diagnosis date, cancer stage, type, location
- Family history of cancer
- Cancer screenings and treatments
- Regimen, drug dose, cycles, and clinical trial information
- Surgery procedure
- Nutrition and dietary list
- Activity Recommendations
Addressing Fear of Recurrence
Feeling fearful is normal, a cancer reoccurrence may happen to you after treatment ends. Stay with the survivorship care plan your primary care provided and ask any questions to the specialists you may see. Some ways to cope with the fear of cancer recurrence includes:
- Join a support group
- Follow your cancer care survivorship plan
- Ask questions to your oncologist
- Spend time with family and friends
- Recognize your feelings and emotions
