Getting Out of a Chair on Your Own
Getting Out of a Chair on Your Own
Getting Out of a Chair on Your Own
Now what we're going to practice is getting in and out of a chair at home without the use of your arms because after your surgery you're not going to be allowed to push or use your arms so we want to make sure you can get in and out of your favorite chair so you can rest rest comfortably and be safe with getting in and out to protect your surgery so what I'm going to have you do so I'm just going to have you kind of loosely Cross Your Arms over your chest this just discourages you from accidentally using your arms so to get out of the chair we're at the back of the chair where you're supposed to be when you're sitting but we need to move to the front of the chair to get out of it so you're going to kind of scoot your bottom forward kind of One Cheek at a time till you get to the front edge of your chair perfect then you want to get your legs underneath you for sure some good support perfect so then what we're going to do is we're going to use some momentum to help you stand up so the rule of thumb when getting out of a chair is nose over toes so you want to get your nose kind of out here in front of you to get your weight off of your hips so that you can push yourself up into standing with your legs okay so we're going to rock one two and then on three you're going to stand up okay so when you're ready good and then just pause there for a moment make sure you're not dizzy and then when we go to sit down I want you to take some small steps until you feel the back of the chair against your legs perfect then you're going to cross your arms again so you're not encouraged to use them and then you're going to aim with your behind for the back of the chair perfect.
