We're going to practice getting in and out of a chair at home with the help of a loved one just in case you're feeling a little woozy or dizzy after surgery we want to make sure that you're safe with getting in and out of a chair and that your loved ones know best how to assist you with that ask you to lose weight is cross your arms over your chest just to discourage you from wanting to use your arms while we go to get out of our chair so the first thing we have to do is we have to get to the front of your chair so in order to do that we're going to have to kind of one side at a time of assistance perfect feel like you're on the edge all right so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to come to your side and I'm going to get my hands on your hips from the side here okay and we're going to use some momentum to help you stand up from the chair so we're going to rock three times trying to get your nose out here in front of your toes to get your weight off of your hips so that you can use your legs and a little bit of help from me to help you come up into tall standing okay so make sure you have your feet nice and anchored on the floor good so I'm going to come next to you here and we're going to rock three times okay so ready going to rock one good rock two and on three come up tall good and pause right there get your bearings want to make sure you're not dizzy good so now we're going to do is we're going to sit back down in the chair so what I want you to do is you're going to take some small steps backwards I'm going to keep a hand on you for balance yep perfect so you feel the chair against the back of your legs so now we're going to Cross Your Arms over your chest again so you're not tempted to use your arms I'm going to put my hands on your hips to kind of guide your hips into the chair okay so what you're going to do is you're going to stick your rear end out like you're aiming for the back of the chair and come down nice and slow I've got your hips good.
