Using a JP Drain
I'm going to talk to you today about the JP drain after a breast cancer surgery this string is in place after your surgery until your body is able to reabsorb the fluid on its own on the side of the drain you'll see that there's some numbers here and you can use that to measure the fluid or you can buy a disposable measuring cup as well so when it's time to empty the drain you're going to make sure that you practice you're going to hold this up right and you're going to see where the number is at with the fluid or you can use so you're going to take the cap off and you'll do this in the bathroom and you can drain the fluid out in either to your cup or into the toilet gently squeezing and then you can put it back up right if you would like you can take an alcohol swab and clean the outside of the cap and now it's time to go ahead and close it so we're going to either squeeze with a fist or we can fold the drain in half and then you're going to replace the cap this is going to create the suction that is needed to help pull the fluid out and then we're going to make sure we resecure this by either putting it in the pouch or if you have a little lanyard you can put it in there and you can also safety pin this to your bra through the loop and always make sure that you wash your hands afterwards.
