What is the ICU?
The Intensive Care Units (ICU) at Lee Health are an X-bed intensive care unit dedicated to the care of the patient recovering from open-heart, lung and vascular surgery, along with cardiac medical problems.
The staff consists of registered nurses who have completed extensive training and have achieved advanced certifications.
The ICUs are consistently recognized for outstanding patient and physician satisfaction ratings.
Medical Intensive Care Unit
Patients who are diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction (MI) or heart attack, congestive heart failure (CHF), or other medical conditions are cared for in the MICU. Here patients receive close monitoring using the latest medical technology.
Upon stabilization, patients may be treated medically or receive cardiac surgery.
Open Heart Intensive Care Unit
After open heart surgery, patients move to the OHICU, which has state of the art monitoring equipment and the latest in advanced technologies. Patients receive post-operative care from specially trained nurses skilled in caring for open-heart surgical patients.
Surgical Intensive Care Unit
After undergoing extensive surgeries such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs or carotid endarterectomies, patients may move from the operating room or PACU (recovery room) to the SICU. The experienced SICU nursing staff is specially trained in caring for patients with complicated surgical procedures and utilizes state of the art monitoring equipment and technologies.
We welcome our patients' family and visitors and recognize their role in recovery. We ask that visitors help respect our patients' need for rest and privacy by limiting the number of guests to two at a time.
