Robotic Adrenalectomy (Adrenal Gland Removal) Surgery

What is an adrenalectomy?

Surgery to remove one or both adrenal glands is known as an adrenalectomy. The adrenal glands are located above each kidney and are part of the endocrine system. A tumor may form inside the adrenal gland and may produce too much hormone in a patient, prompting the removal of the adrenal gland.

The glands produce hormones including adrenaline, aldosterone, and cortisol. While also regulating blood sugar, blood pressure, and other important body functions.

Why is adrenal gland surgery performed?

A tumor may form inside the adrenal gland and be removed. The tumor could become cancerous. The majority of adrenal gland tumors are noncancerous. The surgeon controls the da Vinci™ Surgical System and operates. Depending on the tumor size or if there's a tumor in the adrenal gland, the surgeon will advise the best approach for you.

da Vinci™ SP Surgical System

da Vinci Robotic Surgery Lee Health

da Vinci™ SP Surgical System

Our Lee Health surgeons use the da Vinci™ Surgical System, to operate through just a few small incisions. The da Vinci™ System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand.

As a result, da Vinci™ enables your surgeon to perform your surgery with enhanced vision, precision, and control. Robotic adrenalectomy surgery enables you to recover faster and with less pain than traditional open surgery.

The da Vinci® SP provides a unique and new surgical approach to very invasive traditional alternatives.
