Robotic Hepatobiliary Surgery

Your care, our experienced surgeons

Hepatobiliary surgery is a complicated procedure that is performed by surgeons who have received specialized training due to the liver and its major blood arteries. Hepatobiliary surgery involves the liver and biliary system, including the bile ducts and gallbladder.

When our expert surgeons use the Da Vinci™ robot assisted surgery machine, this enables our surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

What is hepatobiliary disease?

The liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts are the components of the hepatobiliary system. It's primary function is to absorb nutrients in anything eaten or consumed and detoxify the body by removing excess waste. Any abnormality of the hepatobiliary system can prevent it from operating normally.

Minor infections, cysts, growths, or inflammation can be a symptom of the disease. If these disorders develops further without early treatment, it can become cancerous.

What are the different types of hepatobiliary diseases?

Some of the different types of diseases that affects the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts include:

  • Autoimmune liver disease
  • Biliary dyskinesia
  • Bile Duct cancer
  • Choledocholithiasis
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Gallbladder cancer
  • Hepatitis
  • Liver cancer
  • Liver cirrhosis
  • Liver failure

Some of the these hepatobiliary diseases require a surgical intervention.

The da Vinci™ Xi Surgical System

The da Vinci® provides an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy.

Da Vinci™ Surgical System

Our Lee Health surgeons use the da Vinci™ Surgical System, to operate through just a few small incisions. The da Vinci™ System features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand.

As a result, da Vinci™ enables your surgeon to perform your surgery with enhanced vision, precision, and control. Robotic hepatoliliary surgery enables you to recover faster and with less pain than traditional open surgery.

The da Vinci® SP provides a unique and new surgical approach to very invasive traditional alternatives.
